The Tranquil Otter is a rural location; on the outskirts of Thurstonfield, one of the six villages on the Solway Plain. There is much to do and see within an hours drive.

Hadrian’s Wall

This world heritage site is high on many bucket lists and is on our doorstep. Hadrian’s Wall path passes through Burgh by Sands, follow the path along the river to Carlisle, a great days walk.

Things to do Carlisle

Carlisle is a historic city, most buildings have a story to tell. The Castle, the Civic Centre building and Dixon’s chimney dominate the skyline, don’t be fooled by the lack of skyscrapers. The Castle, Cathedral and Dixon’s Chimney were the dominating economic influences of old.

The Castle is now home to the Military Museum of Cumbria, and The Torchlight Tours are a great way to get a bone-chilling insight into the past.
