Clay pigeon shooting at Greenquarries
Dust down your Barbour jacket and unearth those Hunter wellies you’ve been waiting to wear. A day of country sports at Greenquarries could be just the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.
Nick organised an outing with Jon and Connor (both aged 15), to try out the Clay Pigeon shooting at Greenquarries near Wigton (a 20-minute drive from The Tranquil Otter).
A chance to try a variety of shooting styles
They had a wonderful day on the varied shooting ground where they were able to use realistic stands for all kinds of clay target – pheasant, partridge, grouse, waterfowl and ground game. The stands emulate how certain birds fly. So for example a Pheasant flies high and so you’re often shooting vertically. Whereas ground game runs along the ground so, the clays
buy clonazepam us mimic by whizzing along the ground.
All of this means that you can enjoy competing and developing your shooting skills without actually killing anything.
Excellent for beginners
Greenquarries takes excellent care of beginners. Jon and Connor learned how to handle the gun under the supervision of Peter Hetherington, the owner and coach, who also ensured they understood the necessary safety rules. Guns, ammunition and safety equipment, were supplied on the day.
An ancient quarry with spectacular views
The shooting ground itself is an ancient quarry used by the Romans to build Hadrian’s Wall. It really is magnificent with spectacular, clear views over Annan to Lockerbie and Langholm to the North; worth the visit in itself.
